LESSON 01 OF 06
How Robots Actually Work
Write a table: Sensor | What it detects | Brain decision | Motor action. Fill in 3 rows for your robot.

Ace saysReal robots have 3 main parts: SENSORS (eyes and ears), a BRAIN (computer), and MOTORS (arms and wheels).

Lana's guideSensors collect information. The brain processes it and decides what to do. Motors make the robot move. Every robot is some version of this.
PARENT & TEACHER COACHNeed help teaching this lesson? Ask LANA.+
Help the child understand the lesson goal and make one idea they can proudly explain.
Invite the child to show you what they are making. Use short questions, give them time to think, and let their choices lead the project.
What are you making, why did you choose it, and what would you like to try next?
Break the activity into one tiny next step. Offer two choices, model one example, and praise the child's effort instead of taking over the project.
- Camera sensor → detects obstacle → brain decides to turn → motor turns wheels
- Microphone sensor → hears 'stop' → brain decides to halt → motors stop
- Touch sensor → feels collision → brain decides to back up → motors reverse
Can you name all 3 parts of your robot?
