LESSON 01 OF 06
Character Shapes
Draw 5 different head shapes (circle, square, triangle, oval, irregular). Write one personality word under each. Pick your favorite for your character.

Ace saysEvery cartoon character is built from SHAPES. Circles are friendly. Triangles are sharp and sneaky. Squares are strong and steady.

Lana's guideLook at your favorite characters — what shapes make up their body? Head shape, body shape, and limb shapes all tell the viewer something about who they are.
PARENT & TEACHER COACHNeed help teaching this lesson? Ask LANA.+
Help the child understand the lesson goal and make one idea they can proudly explain.
Invite the child to show you what they are making. Use short questions, give them time to think, and let their choices lead the project.
What are you making, why did you choose it, and what would you like to try next?
Break the activity into one tiny next step. Offer two choices, model one example, and praise the child's effort instead of taking over the project.
- Round shapes = friendly, safe, approachable
- Sharp shapes = dangerous, fast, exciting
- Big head = cute, young. Small head = strong, adult
- Mix shapes for interesting characters
What shape is your character's head and what does it say about them?
